So who am I?

Tucked Away developed partially because there were already too many people using the same name as I have to showcase their own photography and I didn't want to get caught up in the confusion this could generate. So for clarity my name is Huw and I have been photographing seriously for about 5 years.

My reasons for picking up a camera and becoming serious about the art so late in life are complex but since a young age I have liked photography, still having the first camera I borrowed from my mum displayed at home.

About 14 years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD and needed to find a safe place to take me away from the challenges I found myself facing on a daily basis. My friends and family all tried to support me over many years and after a particularly tough period I was encouraged by a great friend to join them on a photography day. I was exceptionally reluctant but I eventually agreed and am so glad I did.

A whole new world opened in front of me. I discovered that I could relax and feel normal (accepting this is different for us all) I found myself becoming "tucked away" behind a camera regularly, loving the challenge of learning how to achieve a certain shot or style and sharing how I see the world with others.

I find being outside with my camera regardless of weather conditions very therapeutic, we regularly hear that being in nature is good for you and I for one fully support this view point, the sounds of nature are calming, you become absorbed in to your surroundings leaving those challenges behind even for a short time.

Although I love being outside I also enjoy photographing people, this can be within woodlands, urban areas or even in a studio, this brings different challenges and the learning continues as I embrace this genre of photography.

My desire to improve daily when shooting continues and I hope you enjoy viewing some of my work
